Au Bon Pandemonium

So, that day of the crazy snowfall, Danny and I found solace in the Au Bon Pain right on Union Square.

My boots had broken earlier in the day, and I was wearing ones that weren't waterproof.  In an attempt to combat this, I had the brilliant idea to wear thick athletic socks under my boots.  This backfired in my face when I stepped in a giant puddle, and the socks immediately soaked up water.  My feet were freezing.  It seemed like an appropriate time for a snack and a warm coffee.

I had been taking photographs outside before we decided to hideaway... if you look at yesterday's post, you can see some of them.  I was still in the mood to take photographs, so I decided to experiment with some of the special effect settings on the digital camera I had with me.  Here is the result.

Longwood Gardens Part 2

So... remember when I told you to wait til Sunday for the rest of the Longwood Gardens photos?

It's Tuesday afternoon.  Life's been really busy lately. I had a new show open on Friday, and on top of performing in it, I'm also the Dance Captain, so life has been nuts.

BUT ANYWAY.  Here are the photos!

 

 

 

There will actually be one more day of Longwood Gardens photographs after this one!  (Then just wait til I go back for the holiday light displays... )

I'd love to say that it will be posted tomorrow, but I might not be able to get it up.  I hope I do!  Every time I let this blog just sit for a few days it makes me sad.

Victorian Wonderland

This is not the same victorian house from the previous post... it is one I found to be even more lovely.  There were hedges all around it, hiding it from the outside world but for one gate, that allowed entry.  Through this gate you can see the steps and the door of the house- all lovely shades of pale yellow, coral, and forest green.  I just feel as if I'm disappearing into Wonderland, just like Alice down the rabbit hole, as I stare at this photograph.  I wonder if you will feel the same way.

Smart

Smart Cars are fabulous.  At least, I think so.  I don't really like cars- and in an urban situation, I cannot figure out for the life of me why on earth you  would ever want to drive one.  Public transportation in New York is generally pretty great, and a million times cheaper and faster than driving a car.  It is so incredibly easy, environmentally friendly and cheap, that I feel like if it was implemented everywhere, our world would be an even lovelier place than it already is.  Not that I have anything against driving a Hummer, or an SUV or anything.  My boyfriend used to drive a truck, my dad has a truck, and my mom uses a small SUV.  A lot of places, you need a car.  And I can understand loving the feeling of driving a big car on the road.  But, in a city, I think that, if you must drive, a Smart Car makes total sense.  

What doesn't make sense is that this Smart Car was... in the middle of Madison Square Park. Umm...

Sneakers

When she came to visit, my friend Bianca was wearing these excellent sneakers.  I am not a big sneaker person, and by that, I mean that if you catch me wearing sneakers anywhere other than the gym, you have seen a rare sight.  However, I love them on other people, and she has that flair to pull off ones with lots of bright colours, like these.  We were on one of the balconies at South Street Seaport, she was sitting on a chair and I was sitting on the ground, and I couldn't help but take this shot.

And it Was all Yellow

These flowers were all over England and Scotland in the spring.  The first place I remember really noticing them was in Edinburgh in April, but then I noticed them popping up in London as May began to bloom.  They grow on bushes that look spiny, but actually don't feel prickly at all.  From far away, clusters of them just look like a wash of yellow.  Yellow has never been one of my favourite colors, but I cannot deny that it exudes a sort of endearing happiness.

In a New York Minute

On the Street in Front of Madison Square Park

I am going home so soon, it's insane.  In a month I'll be back in New York taking classes.

That, with my entrance into Polka Dot's amazing May Day competition (for which you can vote for me HERE)  reminded me that I had another blog once. A fashion blog.  I did it last spring, and revived it this september, then let it go again.  In celebration of May Day, and my wanting to shed some winter pounds and pump up the style, it's back.  Posts will probably be infrequent until I return to the US, but I want to get a start on it.
