Saint-Prex and Aubonne

After visiting Lausanne, we hopped back in Erik's car and made our way to the tiny village of Saint-Prex.  I was enchanted.  Saint-Prex looked like it was straight out of a fairytale.  It is an almost perfectly preserved medieval town, and just felt ancient.  I fell in love with Saint-Prex almost instantly!

We only spent about an hour there, walking around, but it felt so magical.  There were ferns growing on the sides of the old buildings, statues and water basins were in the center of the intersections, and there was no way that a car was going to get through the tiny streets.  Little gardens were scattered among the homes, and flowers were everywhere.  It was so pretty.

Next, we visited the very tiny village of Aubonne.  It was so pastoral!  There were very few buildings, and the roads were made of dirt.  Most of the land was taken up by farms.  Erik's family had us over for dinner, and we had a pleasant time, and excellent food.  His wife and daughter were also extremely nice.  His daughter dances, like I used to, and we talked and played games for a while.  I didn't take any photographs in their house, but I did as we walked around the village.  We took Erik's dog, Shadow, on the walk with us, and the dog led the way as we trailed through the muddy paths, giving us  a great opportunity to see the beautiful farmland.

Lausanne

While my dad and  were in Switzerland, we visited a few places other than Geneva.

The other real city we saw was Lausanne- and it was gorgeous!  Unfortunately, the weather was not particularly pleasant, but we still had an excellent time.  Lausanne is built on a hill- a very, very steep hill.  We took the train up the hill to the church at the top, and it was exquisite.  My dad's friend Erik lives in a little village nearby. (More on that tomorrow!) He drove us to Lausanne.  Erik had gone to university in Lausanne, and knew it very well.  He was an excellent tour guide for us. Because it was a sunday, just about everything was closed.  With the terrible weather and nothing open, we encountered very few other people on our walk around town.  The mountain ranges across Lake Geneva took my breath away, and the lake itself was full of swans and ducks.

Stunning.

Fantastique!

Open a New Door

A very old looking door.  I went to Geneva with my dad.  While we were there, he developed a fascination with doors in the city.  I can't say that I blamed him- there were a lot of really pretty doors.  And the doors that weren't obviously pretty had pretty little details- a fancy handle here, a gorgeous relief statue over top there.  Geneva is a city with cool doors.  This is one of them.

Carousel

This is, in fact, an aerial view of the Carousel.  I thought it was kind of garish when I was standing next to it.  I like the French style carousels, with all of the pastels, and fancy carts.  Vividly coloured ones with boats and racecars- generally not my thing.  But this one surprised me.  I climbed some stairs to a landing above and, lo and behold, from the top- it kinda looked pretty!  So I took some pictures of it.  I hope you think it looks pretty too.
