Kitsch Me Up and Urban My Outfitters

Call me a hipster, call me what you like... but I really love Urban Outfitters.  True, they sometimes stock some bizarre things, but they offer delightfully trendy and fairly high-quality clothing for decent prices.  Their sales are fantastic.  And, the bizarre things they stock are just... awesome.  They're awesome.  Urban has some really nifty stuff.

I've gotten some excellent pieces of clothing there, and I plan to get many more in the future.  Beyond clothing though, this place has delightful homewares.  Like the company's higher end/ mori girl shop Anthropologie, there are a lot of home goods at Urban that are really lovely and unique.  Little figurines, pretty shaped candles, cups, plates, etc.  We have a neat plum-coloured, tiered side table from them in our apartment that I got for like $35.

  Unlike Anthropologie, they also stock a lot of sassy and "inappropriate" stuff, like party banners with curse words raunchy sayings, sex books, and well, just other tchotchkes that some might deem inappropriate.  This collection of stuff is always fun to look through, just to see what kinds of wacky things they can sell!  Though, you do find a few artistic gems from time to time that aren't really mainstream enough to sell anywhere else.  They also sell cute and funny kitschy items from old cartoons and such, which are generally fun to look at too!

Brooklyn Snowpocalypse

So, New York City has basically been hammered with snow this year.  

I know that a lot of other places get way more snow than we do, but given what we are used to, this year has been pretty ridiculous.  

Last year, the term "snowpocalypse" was coined, and I think it's pretty genius.  It describes especially well those four days in the end of December when everything shut down- the subway near me didn't run. 

 For four days.  

I live off of the Q and B trains in Brooklyn, and they are outside, but below ground, which means that they are essentially in a ditch.  It's kind of hard to get snow out of a ditch efficiently.

The snow has been gorgeous, not going to lie.

I love how it makes this place look- it's rather magical, in fact.

The second huge snowstorm wasn't quite as life-altering as the first one. All of the subways were running just fine within twelve hours, which was quite a feat for MTA if you ask me. 

I was able to get to where I needed to be, which was preferable.  

But some of the results of the snow were still really crazy- signs were unreadable, traffic lights were blocked so that that they only revealed dim glows of pink, yellow and light green.  

Store overhangs collapsed due to snow.  Peoples' cars were frozen solid.  

We even saw a taxi that had crashed and been on fire.  Here's a photograph of the wreckage:

In any case, I'm hoping there isn't more crazy snow.  Light snow would be fine!  Actually, I really like that.  Seeing snowmen around and such is very pleasant, but not being able to get to auditions really isn't.  I'm ready for spring... but I'm enjoying this while it lasts.

Shamu

I turned 21 a little over a week ago.  For my birthday, Danny took me to SeaWorld in San Antonio.  This was an experience unlike any I had ever had before.  Though most of the eager viewers surrounding me at Believe, the Shamu killer whale show, were about a quarter of my age, I was beaming with excitement

And boy, was it merited.  The killer whales/ orcas were incredible!  They were doing flips, beaching themselves on the side and smiling at the audience.  I was floored.  Unfortunately, some of them had a little bit of a floppy fin, meaning that they were depressed.  In this photograph, however, you can't tell.  This guy looks like he's having a whale of a time.  Get it?  A whale... uh, yeah...

Little Italy

Blurry, yes.  But I think that it really captures the feel of Little Italy around 11PM on a Saturday night, which is when this shot was taken.  Chinatown seems to die down after dinner time, but Little Italy rages on into the hours after midnight.  Even at 11PM hosts were trying to get us to come and sit down in their restaurants, raving about their cannolis or tiramisu.

A chandelier in the casino.  I took this while standing almost directly below it- I never think to look at things that way.  This might sound corny, but it reminded me that there are multiple ways to view everything, in art, and in life.
