Brooklyn Snowpocalypse

So, New York City has basically been hammered with snow this year.

I know that a lot of other places get way more snow than we do, but given what we are used to, this year has been pretty ridiculous.
Last year, the term "snowpocalypse" was coined, and I think it's pretty genius.  It describes especially well those four days in the end of December when everything shut down- the subway near me didn't run.
 For four days.

I live off of the Q and B trains in Brooklyn, and they are outside, but below ground, which means that they are essentially in a ditch.  It's kind of hard to get snow out of a ditch efficiently.

The snow has been gorgeous, not going to lie.

I love how it makes this place look- it's rather magical, in fact.

The second huge snowstorm wasn't quite as life-altering as the first one. All of the subways were running just fine within twelve hours, which was quite a feat for MTA if you ask me.

I was able to get to where I needed to be, which was preferable.

But some of the results of the snow were still really crazy- signs were unreadable, traffic lights were blocked so that that they only revealed dim glows of pink, yellow and light green.

Store overhangs collapsed due to snow.  Peoples' cars were frozen solid.

We even saw a taxi that had crashed and been on fire.  Here's a photograph of the wreckage:

In any case, I'm hoping there isn't more crazy snow.  Light snow would be fine!  Actually, I really like that.  Seeing snowmen around and such is very pleasant, but not being able to get to auditions really isn't.  I'm ready for spring... but I'm enjoying this while it lasts.

All of these photographs were taken in Prospect Park South, Prospect Heights, Flatbush and Park Slope

I'll Get You My Pretty

Many of the signposts, lamp posts... and other kinds of posts in the East Village are covered in elaborate mosaics.  These mosaics can be very random in color and pattern, but this one particularly impressed me with its Wizard of Oz content.  I really like the Wicked Witch of the West- and no, this is not be having seen Wicked and suddenly been enlightened by the mastery of Idina Menzel.  To be honest, I did see her in Wicked and I loved it, and probably (definitely) can sing the majority of the soundtrack from memory.  But, I had a thing for this character many years before she was even in Rent.  I saw The Wizard of Oz when I was a little kid, and I sympathized with the witch.  At every opportunity, I attempted to convince my family that she just had a terrible childhood, and was not really evil, but misunderstood. I was an odd kid.

Fourth Street

Seagulls are kind of odd animals, in my opinion.  They sometimes look so viscious, sometimes serene, sometimes completely dumb.  Just think about the seagulls in Finding Nemo, screaming "mine!  mine!!".  Hilarious  Why?  Because they sound and look so dumb.  But, stare into the eyes of a seagull, and they look malicious.  This one looked rather docile, alancing on a sign next to the street marker, one the beach.

On Broadway

My biggest dream in life is to be on Broadway.  Though I have this photography blog, this a hobby.  My profession is actually acting.  I have wanted to be an actress since I was a little girl- my family would always have to stop me from singing Disney Princess songs in the middle of the night, or watch my five hour long sagas performed with my Barbies or dinosaurs.  So, I was incredibly joyous three years ago, when I moved to New York for school, to learn that I would be living on Broadway!  Of course, Broadway is a massive street that runs the entire length of Manhattan..... this sign, with the lovely flower basket, is on the intersection of 23rd St and Broadway.
