People go about their daily lives.

This is Flatbush.

Beach Haven Sunrise

 

For the past two monthes, I have been living in Beach Haven, New Jersey.  It's a pretty little town- mostly a summer resort.  My grandparents have a house there, and a lot of my favourite childhood memories are associated with this place.  This time, I was there working at Surflight Theatre, an amazing regional theatre that I have worked at before as an intern. 

One thing that's wonderful about working at Surflight... it's two blocks away from the beach.  If the working hours were shorter, I would have been on the beach all of the time.  As it was, I worked crazy long hours, but I made sure to get on the beach at least once every few days.  Often, this was at night.  Sometimes, though, I went early in the morning.  

These photos were taken from the end of my grandparents' block, around 8AM on a glorious and warm September morning.

Black Eyed Susan and Such

I know, I know.  More flowers.  I'm always posting photographs of flowers.

But I love  them, and they are just so darn fun to photograph.  Flowers are so delicious, so happy, so gorgeous... inspirational in every way.  And their time for this year is pretty much done, unless I go to a greenhouse or something.  Which I will do at some point.  So enjoy some of the fabulous flora from Beach Haven this past summer.

Ghetto Gnomes

First of all, I feel that I must clarify that this was not taken in a ghetto.  This was taken in the Lower East Side, which is actually delightfully nice.  Especially if you are in your late twenties or older and want some chill nightlife.  Anyways, I named this photograph what I named it because, well, this is a gnome mural on the side of a building that has been tagged.  It's all a bit strange, but I like it in a bizarre sort of way.

Victorian Wonderland

This is not the same victorian house from the previous post... it is one I found to be even more lovely.  There were hedges all around it, hiding it from the outside world but for one gate, that allowed entry.  Through this gate you can see the steps and the door of the house- all lovely shades of pale yellow, coral, and forest green.  I just feel as if I'm disappearing into Wonderland, just like Alice down the rabbit hole, as I stare at this photograph.  I wonder if you will feel the same way.

Northcote House

This was just one of the many houses in the Hampstead area near the Heath.  Many of them seemed to have names, but this one had a charming name and a really cool sign.  So, it got a photograph on my blog.  Hooray!

The Black Knight

It's just a flesh wound...

No, not that black knight.  Though I do adore Monty Python.  This black knight is part of an iron fence around a garden right next to Madison Square Park.  Much less threatening, and, unfortunately, much less funny.  HOWEVER.  I am venturing to say... cooler.  Much cooler.

Mardi Gras

I feel that I must be honest... this post has almost nothing to do with Mardi Gras.  It wasn't taken on Mardi Gras- it wasn't even taken in February.  It was taken in June.  I wasn't at some party, throwing beads, drinking and eating massive amounts of donuts, I was standing on a path in the summer sunshine chillin' out.  This photograph wasn't taken in Paris, or Barcelona, or Venice or New Orleans... it was taken in Loughlin.  So, why were there Mardi Gras coloured streamers hanging from this railing?  Only the powers divine (and the event planner) know.
