Bruxelles Est Belle

Bruxelles.  Brussels.  It's in Belgium, and it's gorgeous.  I visited Brussels last May on a trip to see a friend of mine named Pam, who had recently moved to a suburb of the city.

The Eurostar took me directly from St. Pancras Station, which was only three blocks from my building, into Brussels... very early in the morning.  I caught the train at about 5:30AM.  But, since I only lived a few blocks away, it wasn't that bad.  A nice little latte and I was good to go.  One thing I really mis about Europe is the coffee.  American fancy coffees can be good but lattes in Europe... oh my god.  So much better.  I don't know why, if they used more milk or what, but wow.  Such good lattes.

Anyway, after wandering around the train station for a bit, trying to get my bearings, and being stunned at the fact that customs was savagely easy, especially compared to the UK, Pam and I were off to explore!  We did the necessary things- seeing the Mannekin Piss, that little peeing fountain was one of our first stops.  It really is little.  Tiny, actually.  Like, maybe a foot and a half tall.  But, it was cool.  We got waffles.  This was important to me.  And, we saw the gorgeous buildings, which they really were.

Brussels is a very nice looking city. I feel like I've said that about every place in Europe but, well... they are.  Old cities make me happy.  A lot of East Coast cities in the USA come close, but yeah.  European cities are just generally pretty.  The older the better, I say.

So.... here is Brussels.  Bruxelles...
Sorry that the photographs are a bit blurry.  These were not taken with my standard camera...

Bruxelles.  Brussels.

Des vieilles villes me font heureux.

Toile on Wall

Another scene from that garden near the Groehning Museum.
Metal toile cutouts on a crumbling brick wall.  Stunning.

If I ever have a backyard, it shall contain something that looks almost exactly like this.

Impending Doom

I'm posting the next bunch of  photographs about the darker side of loveliness.
This one is a detail from the most gorgeous pulpit that I have ever seen in my life.  It was wooden, and carved so intricately, that I stared at it for probably five minutes.  Beautiful.

This was taken in the same church as St. Michael Melting

Lucky

The lovely bedroom I slept in while in Belgium.
My friend Pam was nice enough to let me stay with her.  She has two cute black cats (and I don't know which one this is...)

Grandeur

Gorgeous buildings in the Grande Place.
I had coffee with my friend Pam in the one on stage left house right.

St. Michael Melting

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be sacriligeous.
It's a candle burning for St. Michael that happens to be melting.  Along with the nose of this image.

This photograph goes pretty nicely with Enchantment to me.  They don't really have much to do with one another, but something tells me that if you like this, you'll like that one.
