Hipsters on a Roof

Well, the content of this post is pretty much exactly what the title suggests.

Here are some photos.  Of hipsters... on a roof.

Where did I see these hipsters of glory?  And, how did I get an aerial shot of them on a roof?  Skill, my friends.  I learned how to fly the other day. Okay, that's a lie, obviously.  But, I really did shoot them from above.  I was on a bridge.  The Manhattan Bridge, to be exact.  This man and woman were on a rooftop below, on the Brooklyn side.  There were a few shockingly warm days in the middle of this week, and I decided to take advantage of my thursday by actually walking home from Manhattan.  Yes, this is an insanely long walk, and yes, I did bail once I got to the Atlantic-Pacific Station, about a half an hour away from my apartment.  However, I did make it over the bridge.  It was beautiful... but, more about that in tomorrow's post!

Inspiration Fridays: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

Toulouse-Lautrec may be my favourite painter of all time.  It's quite possible.  His works feel so romantic and beautiful, with an edge of the Parisian sex underworld.  I love it.  I've been a big fan of him for years, and not just for the iconic "Moulin Rouge" lithograph, and his popularization in Baz Luhrmann's film Moulin Rouge!  Though, I did love that movie quite a bit.  Nicole Kidman is awesome.

Anyway, I prefer Toulouse-Lautrec's full-on paintings to his lithographs.  Two of them (the first two) are actually framed in my bedroom.

Dainty Little Things

The original Anthropologie store in Philadelphia is absolutely worth a trip.  If you find yourself in or around the City of Brotherly Love in the near future... go.  Just, go.  It's beautiful!  All Anthropologie stores are very well designed.  They sell lovely products, and show them off on vintage and antique furniture, using cute little tags and signs to advertise the price and name.  

The original store is particularly good though.  It's in a lovely old building just on the corner of Rittenhouse Square, near a bunch of little French Bistros and such.  There is a winding spiral staircase with what used to be a big grand fireplace on a landing from the stairs.  Gorgeous.

I'm basically obsessed with this company.  If I could fill my wardrobe and apartment with their goods, I would in a heartbeat.  In the meantime, I am content to enjoy their sale racks and photograph their home goods!  

While at the store in Philly, I did pick up a stunning black floral apron from their sale rack... for only $20!  It was very exciting.  My sister bought the little bunny dish in this first photograph... I think it was about $10.  So, they do have cheap things.  You just have to dig a bit.  But, everything is fantastic.

Photographer Feature: Susan Gayley

  I am a psychology major with a minor in marine science.  I recently did a independent study on psychology as portrayed in photographs, it was specifically on dogs and human relationships.  I am an animal trainer, currently working with dogs, and one day hope to be training marine mammals, like dolphins and whales.  I love taking photographs of animals and capturing those special moments between humans and animals or animals doing cool things and even just being themselves interacting in nature.

 This photo was taken in Sea World Orlando at the Dolphin and Whale show.  

This was the end of the show and each dolphin was doing different trick.

 This photo was taken in Sea World Orlando at the Shamu Show.  The large killer whale on the left is the mama and the smaller whale on the right is the baby.  This baby was 2 months old and the 16th born in Sea World Orlando.  The spots on the baby killer whales are brown and change to the white when they are 3 months old.

This photo is of my Bichon, Gigi.  

She was very much enjoying the last bits of yogurt from my mom.

Au Bon Pandemonium

So, that day of the crazy snowfall, Danny and I found solace in the Au Bon Pain right on Union Square.

My boots had broken earlier in the day, and I was wearing ones that weren't waterproof.  In an attempt to combat this, I had the brilliant idea to wear thick athletic socks under my boots.  This backfired in my face when I stepped in a giant puddle, and the socks immediately soaked up water.  My feet were freezing.  It seemed like an appropriate time for a snack and a warm coffee.

I had been taking photographs outside before we decided to hideaway... if you look at yesterday's post, you can see some of them.  I was still in the mood to take photographs, so I decided to experiment with some of the special effect settings on the digital camera I had with me.  Here is the result.
