Who doesn't love Abraham Lincoln?

He made the Empancipation Proclamation, ending slavery in the United States of America.

He was president during the Civil War.  How cool is that?

He has an awesome beard.  And was really tall.

He also was basically not a politician until he was suddenly a politician.  Isn't that the best kind?

Oh, and he's the emblem and darling of nifty steampunkers everywhere. 

Could he be cooler?  

Oh, yes that's right... he became a martyr too.  Snazzy.

 Danny is a big fan of Lincoln's.  We've found all kinds of incarnations of this man, including an unbelievable comic series called Time Lincoln, where Lincoln starts to time travel just before getting shot, and must, with the help of Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein, use his new arm that has been crafted into a gun to defeat the evil Voic Stalin.  It's pretty incredible.  We framed it and hung it on the wall over our dresser in our steampunk-themed bedroom.

Lincoln has been popping up all over the place in pop culture.  He's even known now for being a vampire hunter.  Abraham Lincoln- Vampire Hunter.
It's real, and it's becoming a film. I swear.

However, where we did not expect to see him was... Disney World.  Walt. Disney. World.  Abraham.  Lincoln.  But, there he was.  Standing out from the crowd in the Hall of Presidents.  Every president got to nod as the announcer (which happened to be the voice of the excellent Morgan Freeman) called out their name.  There were only two presidents who actually spoke- Barack Obama, the current president, who is actually fantastic enough that it was indeed his own recorded voice in the Disney spectacular event, and, you guessed it: Mr. Abraham Lincoln. Disney just picked you and Obama, Mr. Lincoln. If that's not an ultimate win, I don't know what is.

Random side note: sorry about the terrible quality of some of the photographs in recent (and unfortunately a few upcoming) posts!  They are very pixelated.  There's this setting on my camera called "low light," which is meant to take, well, better photographs in places with not very much light.  What I didn't realize, because the screen on my camera is so small, is that this setting reduces the pixel quality by a lot.  Henceforth on this blog, this "low light" setting will be referenced as the "suck setting".  It'll be my excuse, a very true one, for any bad photo quality.

Steampunk- it's half sci-fi, half Victorian splendor.  And, I just love it.

The mix of gothic undertones with futuristic weaponry, but light, soft whispers of lace makes me giggle like a little schoolgirl.  Gold, brass fixtures on corsets topped off with top hats- it's just great.

Danny and I have decided to use a Steampunk theme in our bedroom...everything from a brass bed frame, to golden candlesticks, to a table with gold shells holding up a glass top.  Framed around the room we have some paintings by Toulouse-Lautrec (in gold frames, of course) and a copy of the first issue of the comic book "Time Lincoln".  Once the whole thing gets put together, and by that, I mean by the time I have enough hangers to put my ridiculous amount of clothes away, I will post pictures for everyone. 

The apartment is really starting to come together.  I am so delighted about it- we got our Ikea bookshelf the other day.  It's that Expedit model, with all of the squares.  In a mode of Ms. Fix-It, I put the thing together myself, and only made one bad mistake (one side is a little uneven).  All of our books, games, DVDs and video games now have a fairly organized home!  It feels so good.  We now have no boxes, which feels even better.

Our living room, where the bookshelf lives, is Asian themed, so its various squares are covered in little knick knacks, including some paintings and drawings, and Danny's certificate from a special Martial Arts seminar.  But, most importantly, it has my little wooden Japanese doll, my two lucky cat statues, and my Kuromi and William Shakespeare plushies.

Once again, pictures shall come, just not at the moment.   I haven't taken them yet, and I think Danny wanted to do some rearranging.

In the meantime, please enjoy a crappy photobooth pic of what I did with my early afternoon yesterday... I sat on my couch drinking tea from my Shakespearean Insult Mug.
